Christen Schiellerup Købke (1810-1848) was a Danish painter and one of the most prominent artists of the Golden Age of Danish painting. A national romantic, Købke painted portraits, landscapes and architectural paintings. Most of Købke's portraits are of friends, family members and fellow artists. He found most of his motifs in his immediate surroundings. Today he is internationally known for his well-composed and harmonious paintings, their coloristic qualities and his sense of everyday life.
