Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) was an outstanding German artist known for her commitment and artistic depiction of social injustice. Her early works in particular show realistic depictions of poverty, hunger and social hardship. Over the course of her career, Kollwitz developed a style of her own that is more closely associated with Expressionism.
