Johan Christian Claussen Dahl (1788 – 1857) was a Norwegian artist who is considered Norway's first great Romantic painter, the founder of the 'golden age' of Norwegian painting and one of the greatest European artists of all time. He is often referred to as the "father of Norwegian landscape painting". Dahl's art was characterized by his extraordinary ability to capture the beauty and majestic wildness of Norwegian nature.
