Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was a Dutch draftsman, painter and printmaker. An innovative and prolific master in three media, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest visual artists in art history and the most important in Dutch art history. Unlike most 17th-century Netherlandish masters, Rembrandt's works exhibit a wide range of styles and subjects, from portraits and self-portraits to landscapes, genre scenes, allegorical and historical scenes, as well as biblical and mythological subjects and animal studies.
