Albrecht Dürer (1471 - 1528) was a German painter, printmaker and theorist of the German Renaissance. Already in his twenties, Dürer gained a reputation and influence throughout Europe with his high-quality woodcuts. He was in contact with the most important Italian artists of his time, including Raphael, Giovanni Bellini and Leonardo da Vinci.
