Gustave Camille Gaston Cariot (1872 - 1950) was a self-taught artist who went on to become an acclaimed Post-Impressionist painter. Cariot explored Divisionism's ability to convey the luminosity and mutability of light and color. Divisionism is a painting method in which the colors are not mixed prematurely, but are placed next to each other on the painting surface.
