Michael Peter Ancher (1849 – 1927) was a Danish realist artist, best known for his paintings of fishermen, lakes and other scenes from the Danish fishing community in Skagen. Michael Ancher was influenced by his traditional training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the 1870s, which had strict compositional rules. However, through his marriage to Anna Ancher, he became acquainted with the naturalistic concept of the unadorned reproduction of reality and its colors. He implemented this in his works.
